My practice is rooted in innovation on the potter’s wheel. I approach wheel throwing as a way to invent new forms rather than reproduce familiar ones, continually exploring what a vessel can be while remaining grounded in the traditions of the wheel.

My primary technique is a controlled collapse, folding the clay onto itself and thinning the outward folds to create repeated forms. I manipulate these folds individually, shifting their direction to change the overall shape of the vessel. I oftentimes carve out these elements to add further intricacy and variation.

My approach is closely tied to architecture and design. I am meticulous about proportion, geometry, and how each element relates to the whole. I often exaggerate dimensions, but those exaggerations are carefully considered so the form remains balanced and visually resolved. I am drawn to the way good design can simply feel right, even when it is unusual or unexpected, and bring that same attention to the wheel.
